Lee Farkas, the convicted ex-chairman of Taylor, Bean, & Whitaker Mortgage Corp., was experiencing heart issues Thursday and was set to be transferred to a federal medical facility.
David Coorssen, the defense attorney who recently filed Farkas’ request for a retrial in the Fourth District Court of Appeals, said he had no details and was unaware to which facility authorities would transfer Farkas.
Farkas has been incarcerated at FCI Williamsburg in Salters, S.C.
He was convicted and sentenced to 30 years in prison last June for a $2.9 billion mortgage fraud scheme. In the appeal, Farkas argued he did not receive a fair trial because the court rushed the case to trial.
The federal government has until Feb. 24 to respond to the appeal.
