Erwin Boring's mower conked out, and he's been on the prowl for a new one.
The Cannon Beach resident was in Astoria recently and spied an older model Craftsman for $198. He didn't buy it, but when he saw the same mower discounted online, he jumped on it.
The ad , still running on Sears.com (punch in item number 07138916000), showed a regular price of $269.99. That amount was crossed off and replaced with $219.88 and below, a third priced of $197.89 was marked "Now" in red followed by "Savings applied in cart."
But what really got Boring's grass growing was a little box on the right promising "Online only! Save an extra 10 percent off ..."
He figured that meant another 10 percent off the lowest price, making the mower about $10 less than what he'd seen in the store. When he clicked through, however, the price stuck at $197.89.
The Desk took a gander at the ad and indeed, it appears as though the $197.89 "now" price would be further reduced.
